The Montana Tech Orediggers faced a tough challenge against the Arizona State University Sun Devils this past Saturday at the Eccles Ice Center. The final score of 17-2 in favor of the Sun Devils may not have been the outcome we hoped for, but there were still some bright spots in the game worth highlighting.

The Sun Devils came out strong, dominating the game with a total of 47 shots on goal compared to the Orediggers’ 8 shots. Their powerplay was also effective, going 2 for 7, while the Orediggers struggled to convert on their powerplay opportunities, going 0 for 3.

In terms of goaltending, Liam Casto of the Sun Devils faced 8 shots and made 6 saves, while Brecken Kasse of the Orediggers faced 27 shots and made 14 saves. Despite the high shot count, Kasse put in a solid effort between the pipes.

One standout performer for the Sun Devils was #22 Jack Merkosky, who netted an impressive hat trick with 3 goals. On the Orediggers’ side, #19 Riley Kelly managed to find the back of the net with a goal of his own.

While the scoreline may not reflect the effort and determination shown by the Orediggers on the ice, this game serves as a learning experience and a chance to regroup and refocus for the next matchup.
